It may sound sappy, but the best gift I ever got was a vacation my wife planned with our two kids. It wasn't big or expensive, just time away in a cottage not far from home. But I loved it!

The best gift I ever had was when my wife and all my kids made a special dinner for me. Each prepared a different dish that they knew I liked and the best part was seeing how they all pulled together to do it for me and had fun themselves.

What kind of car is that on the home page? Are you telling us that is what we should want for Fathers Day? Anyway, after 25 years of marriage, I've got all the ties and sweaters I need, and I don't smoke cigars anymore. So just a nice glass of wine with my wife would be nice, and so on.

I think the biggest gift I received (other than my wife) is my youngest daughter. In 1999 I retired after 22 years in the Air Force which involved lots of moving all over the world and more time away from home than I care to think about. At the time we had 3 children, 6, 9, and 15. For the first couple of years I tried playing catch up with those 3. I went to all the school meetings, helped out in classrooms and did field trips but then in 1993 we had Julia. Now being at home more I got to see ALL the things I missed with the other 3.

While playing with Julia one Christmas, my oldest asked me "Dad, she's your favorite isn't she?" My reply "Honey, she has to be. This is the child I've gotten to experience!" She answered "It's ok Dad. We don't know what we missed." With tears I answered "That's the problem! I KNOW what you missed now and it's killing me!"

I don't regret serving my country and I thank God for this second chance as a Dad.

The best gift I ever got for Father's Day was some of my kids' artwork framed nicely by my wife.

The best gift that I would like to receive on Father's Day one day is walking up one morning and having my two children and their spouses and their children come over to attend Mass with me. But, my children are still attending St. Francis Xavier University and still several years away from marriage and parenthood themselves. But, that is a gift that I would love to receive one day. Until then, I have to settle for my Father's Hug and Kiss and a lonely walk to Mass.

The gift I get every year from my twin sons is a hug and a kiss....does not get any better than that!

As I get older (55) I have come to realize that the best gift I could receive on Fathers Day is to be joined by my whole Family at Mass and to just enjoy some time with my family.

The best gifts that I have ever received were the ones that came from my children's heart and that said I Love You

The best gift I have ever received as a father was to be blessed with a loving wife, three sons, and five grandchildren. Spending time with them every year at this time of the year is all that one could ever ask for. I feel rewarded each and every time. Thank you God for giving me a family's love.

I'd love to fully realize the gift of piety.

All I want on Father's Day is time with my family. But as it is, I have a scheduled talk that day in a Christian Life Program around 40 kilometers away from my home. But all I really really want is a confirmation that my family feels and appreciates my love for them. A message via mobile SMS from my wife fulfilled my longing. The message went as simply as the following..."Happy Father's Day to a very responsible, caring and loving FATHER! I LOVE YOU!"

That made my day, a week earlier than I wished. My wife thought June 14 was Father's Day. She realized later that Father's Day won't be til June 21, but I thanked her profusely just the same. It is amazing to realize that Fathers aren't really hard to please. Bothered that I may be the only father whose deepest desire is an appreciation from the family, I did a survey and posted the results in my own blog. Here's the link that post... It isn't just me then. Most fathers are not that hard to please. It's the non-material invisible-to-the-eye stuff that touches our hearts.

May all Fathers be blessed with families that love and appreciate them. Thanks for reading this post and God bless you!

The best gift I`ve ever received was the realization of my vocation, my place in life to serve God as best possible. Married many years by civil law, then having our marriage convalidated by the church in the prescence of God, the blessings came forth. Then, finally understanding that I am a husband and a father helps me have a closer relationship with my wife and a richer appreciation for my kids. These relationships are not always easy but with God`s help we are able to cope with the ups and downs of life. As St. Augustine observed in Confessions, the things needed for my family do not come from me but through me from God the Father. This put into perspective my vocation.

This Father's Day will bring me the best gift ever. My son and daughter in law will celebrate thier first anniversary. My wife and I were part of thier marriage preparation and to have them celebrate their Sacrament of Marriage on Father's Day is humbling for me. They live what the Church teaches and as a father I stand in awe of that. I love my son very much so for Father's Day I celebrate their Wedding Feast of the Lamb in thier Sacrament of Marriage.

I think I agree with many of you in that the best gift i've been given is the gift of time. One year all the kids were gathered around and my wife asked me what was wrong and my response was nothing, all present and accounted for. I have also been wished Happy Father's Day from the kids (adults now)that I used to coach soccer.
